Snuck out for the first gig of the year, to catch the tail end of Wire’s set at a sold out Band on the Wall. I’m not gonna pass judgement on half a set, but you get what you’d expect from these post punk pioneers. I’ll be honest, there’s only the Pink Flag LP I’m familiar with, but with 4 decades worth of albums to go at, I am left a little in the dark here and there. However, good music needs no introduction and whether old or new, this lot I can now testify always sound good. Guitars chug, crash and slash, vocals croon, stab, spit and the admittedly ageing crowd do their best to react accordingly. It’s pretty great and one thing’s for sure, I need to listen to more Wire!
