I’ll start with the positives. Albert Hall do pretty decent beer and once you’ve kicked your way past a sea of miserable bastard hipsters, you can find a pretty decent seat to watch the band. Now I’d encourage anyone to give White Denims ‘Stiff’ album a spin, it’s great, but... don’t bother seeing them live. It’s not that they’re bad, not at all. It’s just a bit of a plod. The songs from Stiff noticeably get the crowd bouncing, but elsewhere the southern blues/funk rock gets a bit indulgent and whilst the band look to be having a fantastic time, the enthusiasm is somewhat lacking off stage. Now I’m gonna be fair, some of it is brilliant, a nail your heart to the barn door stomping rock until your eyes roll maelstrom and it’s bloody good fun. For every high though, there are several lows. I’ve seen worse gigs, but I’ve seen better too, can’t win em all I guess!
