Wet Leg are still a new band, let’s not forget that. There’s a real familiarity about them though, having seen them live quite a few times and of course they’re probably one of the most hyped bands of the year. The question then is, does this still feel exciting? It’s immediately obvious that they’ve grown in confidence, especially Rhian who seems to brim with it. They’ve graduated quickly through to bigger rooms like the Ritz and songs like ‘Wet Dream’ fill them effortlessly. I’m not gonna tell you they sound tighter, truth is they’ve always sounded brilliant right from the get go. It’s the more blissful surf pop stuff where you really get a sense of how good they are though. I know everyone loves the bangers, but there’s some beautiful songs here. ‘I Wanna Be Abducted (By a UFO)’ is the only deviation from that stunning debut album. It’s a heavier song that didn’t make the cut, but the fact they’re playing it live maybe indicates where they want to go next? Sadly with popularity come the masses and the masses contain wankers. A group of lecherous blokes stood next to us, get bored after a while talking about Rhian’s legs and start blathering on about VAT and some bloke from IT. They get a bit upset and mouthy when told to be quiet and watch the band, but they do shut up. Why do people come to gigs and talk all the way through? It’s only a short set too,  45 minutes and done, climaxing with ‘Chaise Longue’ of course. The Ritz’s bouncy floor put to good use, as the pit erupts. So does this still feel exciting? Yes it bloody does. Although I’d be lying if I said I didn’t prefer them in the smaller rooms. Even if I do enjoy putting pissheads in their place.
