I’m not gonna miss the chance to wax on about this band (again!) I’ve seen The Slow Readers Club in some of Manchester’s biggest venues, where they hold their own with some of the most celebrated bands around. It was different last night though as we ventured outside the city walls to a club in the arse end of Wakefield, in the freezing cold. The Readers don’t care where they play though and a smaller but just as adoring crowd were treated to a set of immense proportions. Those big home town shows replicated on the smaller stage are staggering, intimate and epic. Lyrics sung back with utter rapture at a band completely at ease, effortlessly smashing out songs that venues like this are seldom treated to. There’s new songs too, with a varied set of trusted favourites and album tracks not often aired in Manchester. This band make music that lifts you and for that I’ll be forever in their debt.
