So we all know I like this band, I’ve seen them more than a few times and bang on each time about how brilliant they are. Tonight with just 100 of us in the audience, watching them in a library, with remarkably great sounding acoustics (considering you’re supposed to be quiet in these places) we were treated to something rather special. I’m sure someone thought it would be funny to have a band called Slow Readers Club playing in a library, but the librarians would have been thrown into blind panic tonight, as this old Tudor structure literally shook, the sound man showing utter disregard for the surroundings and allowing the band to do what they do best, namely whip an adoring audience into a ravenous frenzy. Three albums in now, Slow Readers Club are redefining the art of gloriously dark indie pop and what’s more they look to be having just as much fun as we are! This is what all gigs should be like.
