The Lottery Winners, Yes (Pink Room). 23rd February 2020

A bit different for tonight’s entertainment, an album launch party for The Lottery Winners debut. You’d maybe think that sitting in a room with a 100 people, listening to songs from a CD would be boring. First off, half the songs have videos with them, really good videos (by Shaolin Pete, check em out). Secondly the whole evening is peppered with stories about the songs, and if there’s one thing this band are great at, it’s telling ridiculously funny stories. If there’s another thing they’re good at, it’s writing killer indie power pop songs. One after another, this album is a belter. I’ve been to comedy shows and not laughed as much, I’ve been to Q&As and not learnt as much (partly helped by host Shell Zenner, who was on top form). To top all that, they finish off the evening with a short live set, that’s nothing short of celebratory. They play the Ritz later this year. Don’t miss it!
