Expectations are high. One of my favourite bands of all time, in one of my favourite venues. Sisters were like a religion to me in the 90s. Rarely a day went by when I didn’t play an album whilst applying eyeliner, nail polish and the rest. Eldritch’s bass vocals made the posters on my bedroom wall flutter. Tonight he sounds magnificent, as do the rest of the band. Recent reports of them sounding a bit dodgy completely blown out the water. Maybe the famous Albert Hall acoustics helped, but seriously it’s amazing. With an early dispatch of ‘Alice’ and ‘Dominion/Mother Russia’, the hands are raised in swirls of 80s goth moves drifting through the heavy cloud of dry ice (which does not make for good photos sadly, a comically bad one used here to prove the point). If I’m honest, it’s not the best set, don’t get me wrong, it all sounds good, but there are a few questionable choices. This is a minor gripe though, there’s plenty to enjoy, although at a little over an hour the set does feel short. Still, we get ‘Flood’, ‘More’, ‘Temple of Love’ and finish with ‘This Corrosion’, but sadly as the lights come up the lyrics “I want more” ring in my ears.
