Something a bit different for my second gig of the evening. Manchester Goth Rock hopefuls Sinnergod, having a go a tearing up a tiny stage at Grand Central. If I’m honest, they didn’t quite succeed, but this lot are surprisingly polished live and a baseball capped drummer and dreadlocked bassist (neither very goth in my opinion) did get my head nodding. The singers dash of guyliner appears to be the only goth element as the rhythm is far to fast and the melody far too bouncy to be anything but pop-rock. That’s not to say it’s bad, this lot are pretty tight and know what they’re doing on stage, they’re just marketing it wrong. That’s the problem with too many new bands at the moment, too much emphasis on appearance, trying to be unique and being anything but. Fuck the image... although I did like the singers all black Gretsch copy and vintage style mic. I’m not gonna slag this lot off too much though, as to be fair they’re probably still finding their feet, but the highlight of their set for me was the trip to the toilet, where I found and lifted a poster for the forthcoming Welcome to Nightvale Show, seriously that’s a bloody cool poster, THAT’S marketing.
