Back in Gullivers tonight, this time for Man of Moon. The sound is a little improved from my previous visit, but that could be down to the style of music. Man of Moon are an Edinburgh two piece with a love of guitars and synths of the darker persuasion. There’s a lot more space in this sound than your standard indie band, think New Order crossed with NIN or the warm up music from Suicide and you’re getting close... it sounds pretty damn wonderful. They make an effort too, graphic protections are a little pointless in this small room, but hey it’s the thought that counts. The room though only half full (at best) gets a 45 minute set of pulverising psych synth rock, that owes as much a debt to Brian Jonestown Massacre and countrymen Mogwai as anything else, but there’s slower introspective stuff too, the soundtrack to an effortless drive down a deserted road at dusk. Recent single Skin is the stand out, but the whole set threatens glimpses staggering brilliance. They’ve a way to go, but well worth keeping an eye on!
