Last time I was in Rebellion it was heaving, there was barely any space on the walls. Sadly it’s not a busy tonight and that’s a bloody shame. Partly because it’s a great venue that seems to deftly dance between being both cozy and spacious, mainly down to the split level roadhouse vibe, but also because Kim Jennett has one helluva voice! It’s needed tonight as I’m bloody knackered and need something to keep me awake. Trust me there’s zero chance of anyone getting an shut-eye when Jennett let’s loose. Before the wake up call comes though, there’s support from Tomorrow is Lost. Now I’m gonna have to admit it felt a bit dull to my ears, but the funny thing is they’re anything but. They kick out half an hour of fun bouncy rock, I’m just not really a fan of fun bouncy rock. I will admit to quite liking the bassist bass though, you can’t beat a matt black finish. As the night ticks on a the beer flows, my eyelids grow heavy. Then “Yyyeeaaahhhhssss”, it’s ear shredding time as Jennett and band hit the stage in a flurry of riffs, rage and pure power rock attitude. If you read through any of these reviews (surely no one does) you’ll realise that I tend to air away from this side of the rock spectrum, I like dark, edgy. This is isn’t Kim. This is sexy swagger rock n roll. We’re firmly in the land of flying Vs and flying hair, but you know what, when this is done well it’s a shit ton of fun... and this lot do it bloody well. The band are ridiculously tight, with Kim stalking the stage, teasing the crowd with her vocal prowess. It’s indulgent, free and despite me not knowing a single song, I keep finding myself caught up in the fervour. Am I going to ditch my love of aggressive angular punk? No, but for one night I was swept away on a wave of raise your hands in the air power chords... that said, I’d love to see her doing something with a bit more grit.
