It feels like an eternity since I was in The Deaf Institute. I’d forgotten how great the sound is, especially when watching a band like IST IST. This lot are all about the low end. Seismic drums, menacing bass, guitars that go from shred to sublime and Adam’s voice. I’ll never tire of listening to this lad sing, it’s glorious. Full of mournful pain and tempered emotions. There also feels like a lot more synth when you hear them live. It really opens the sound out and suits the slow brooding tempo. That said some of the new stuff off the album that’s dropping week after next really shifts. Joel is all limbs on drums setting a storming pace. It’ll be interesting to hear how the album sounds. There’s certainly some hard hitting stuff on the way. It’s an epic set, spanning 90 minutes, showcasing one of the best bands around. One that’s building a growing fan base and a huge sound. Oh and it seams Deaf has got some fancy new lights too!
