I’m back in Gorilla again. Tonight for Goat Girl. This is a band I got a bit hooked on months back and haven’t now listened to for a bit. Anyone who tells you there’s no good new music is a liar. There’s tons, it’s hard to keep up sometimes. Goat Girl are better than good. Tripping through blissed out stoner rock, shoegazey interludes and psych laden gems. It’s full of beautifully lazy grooves, with an occasional dose of funk swagger and sweeping harmonic vocals. It’s wonderful. Goat Girl are a band to fall in love and become obsessed with. There’s is a sound of relaxing comfort, peace and inclusion. Both records fill the house with warmth on a rainy Sunday morning and live it’s even more enveloping. This is probably helped by a pretty full Gorilla crowd bobbing and swaying with a gentle appreciation. This place can turn into a sweat box, but it remains comfortable. Goat Girl are not a high tempo band, but don’t think that means they lack power. Drummer Rosy Bones alone sees to that and together with two guitars, percussion and keys the sound can swell to fill your ears and heart. Not all the bands I come out to see are for everyone, but this lot really are. Reflected by a very diverse crowd who’s faces all tell you this band are worthy of everyone’s attention. Now I’m always a sucker for a bit of the classic quiet/loud trick and they can do this too as the umph is noticeably increased towards the sets close. Lighting rigs shake… a little and the crowd dance… a lot. There are a few songs omitted that I’d have like to have caught, but still a great set from a great band.
