To round off the crazy busy weekend, we came out to watch Garbage blast through their Version 2.0 album. I remember liking it a lot when it came out, but I’ll be honest, a couple of tracks in and it doesn’t sound all that familiar as Anne turns to me and says “I kinda wish they were playing the first album”, I completely agree, but as the next song kicks in, so do the lights, the bass, the entire Academy. This is what Garbage do best! Feet stomp, guitars shred, bass seriously threatens the foundations, Manson prowls, stalks, poses and general rocks, seriously she works her arse off. It quickly becomes apparent that they’re playing fast and loose with the album format, chucking extra songs in, bsides etc, which perhaps explains my earlier confusion. After nearly two hours though, despite I pretty impressive set, I’m utterly shattered, I had a motorway sandwich for dinner and I want my bed. Rock n Roll!
