A sunny day out in Stockport and it’s quite an eye opener. I’m here for the bands of course, but I think the entire chav population of the county is here too and they’re here for one thing, to get smashed! It’s hot pants wearing, bumbag sporting, ironic T-shirt posing carnage! The music though is good. I missed the first band, but next up were The Blinders, who were... blinding! Very dark, but fast and fun and quite confusing for the masses, which I enjoyed. Following them were Cabbage, who on paper I should like, but I really don’t. I’ve stumbled across them a few times and they’ve never left a good impression. The Coral were next and the impression I had of them after seeing them back in ‘05 is they’re boring live, but fair play they made the most of their set in the sunshine and produced the first real moments of the day as the crowd got swept up in the scouse euphoria. It’s all about the headliners though, Blossoms. They’re a funny band, I really liked the first album, but the second felt flat and this can go for seeing them live too. Not tonight though. On home turf they were resplendent in matching suits and played for all they’re worth to a packed and adoring Edgeley Park. Those thousands of chavs, hats off, they lifted the performance. Arms aloft, on shoulders, belting out the lyrics in a storm of multicoloured smoke bombs that complimented those matching suits on stage. This was a celebration and did not disappoint as Blossoms took probably their biggest gig to date in their stride. They’ll be some sore heads in the morning though and Stockport County are gonna have one helluva clean up job!
