Queens of the Stoneage, Manchester Arena. 20th November 2017

I’ll be honest, the sound in Manchester Arena isn’t the best, same goes for most arenas. Often bands get lost in the cavernous space, Franz Ferdinand I’m looking at you*. Sometimes it hits the sweet spot, Alice Cooper the other night in here proving that after decades of shows he knows what he’s doing. On the odd occasion, the massive space proves to be too small... welcome QOTSA! It’s almost 17 years to the day since I last saw this band perform and boy do they! Smart and sexy rock n roll dialled up so high that surely the met office are reporting seismic activity in Manchester. I’m not kidding, I was up in the top tier and the sound made the seats rattle! Homme is full of charm between songs, striking the perfect mix of rock god and genuine nice guy, with effortless cool that helps deliver a brutal set packed with favourites that pick you up with a gentle hug before slam dancing you into oblivion. *It was a long time ago, but I’ve not forgotten... I won’t forget this for a while either, but for much better reasons.
